State Partnership for Agriculture (SPA)

Agricultural policies in Kaduna, Benue, and Kogi States are being fundamentally transformed with an increased focus on proactive and strategic investments. A critical element of this transformative agenda is prioritized funding for activities along the innovation continuum that will increase productivity, reduce costs, and advance sustainability.  There is a need to facilitate greater government-industry-academia collaborations, the required applied science, technology and development, and knowledge transfer activities to be undertaken to drive new areas of scientific discovery and ultimately lead to the development, commercialization, and adoption of new products, processes, technologies and practices in the Agriculture sector.

The State Partnership for Agriculture (SPA) program is a partnership between Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), and various State Governments in Nigeria, with Synergos as Implementing Partner and Techno Serve serving as Technical Consulting Partner to the project. Ikore was brought in to develop and facilitate a value chain development training for key stakeholders of Benue, Kogi, and Kaduna State. The Value Chain Development training looked at market dynamics and relationships between the different actors in the agricultural chain to strengthen the whole market system -enterprises, business relationships, financial networks, supporting functions, rules and norms, and the business environment –in a way that ensures greater benefits for the poor.
